Octavia

Meet the newest edition of the Fluid series Ms. Octavia....

This has been so much fun for me. I am truly enjoying the journey of layering and taking my time nurturing my work. I am pushing myself and challenging myself to new heights. This type of work is so satisfying. So much that I believe now I want to focus more energy on creating beautiful quality works of art with quality products that can last lifetimes, that can be showcased in galleries. I did a lot of research when doing this piece because I wanted too add to more sea life. Now I have so many more ideas I want to incorporate into the next "Fluid" piece. The seahorse and the bubbles were my favorite part almost. I think the seahorse deserves its own showcase on maybe a smaller canvas or wood panel. This one and the other two Red Seah and the Fluid abstract have been a turning moment in my artistic endeavors.
The live painting events are nice but they stifle my creativity. I want to go beyond beyond. Time constraints and the mere fact that certain folks just aren't really interested in investing over $150 into art... has been quite frustrating. Especially when the audience wants too see new original ideas.
Don't get me wrong the events are wonderful and they have allowed me to get my name out. I love the music and the crowd. However its time consuming and physically draining.
I wouldn't mind narrowing it down to perhaps twice a month. With lots of promotion that way I can just bring a work in progress and sell existing completed work that can be on display. After all most people just want a glimpse of what goes on behind the scene. They are curious about the amount of detail and skill that go into creating a work of art. I don't mind giving them that, just not for a few bucks. So now I have some decisions to make about my future as a live painting artist.
I do have a few different scenarios that I could consider... like perhaps a $100 sitting fee along with the guarantee of a minimum $100 sale. Or only doing basic ideas that I've already done with a few variations on much smaller canvases or wood, maybe even paper. Which can be done in less time. I think as I'm typing this that the first two options sound great and still only a few times a month.

Enjoying the journey...

I love watching other artist go through there process of creating. You Tube time-lapse, live streaming, progression pictures etc etc. I have fallen out of the habit of turning on the camera but I do take plenty of progression photos with my cell phone. However lighting is challenging and my cell phone only takes mediocre pictures but the final piece will be perfect. So I decided to update you on my latest piece. It still has quite a ways to go but it is coming along nicely.
Alrighty... now here you can see the concept, I drew it in marker so it wouldn't bleed because I'm out of fixative.

This is the under painting and far from the colors you will see in the final product.

Okay now you can see the values and skin color coming in.

Now after a long battle with the shading of her skin I moved on to her octohair lol.

Here is where you start to see some of the sea plants and coral getting a second layer of color. I've also begun to start on the eyes.

Now she is getting a little make up and nail polish and more layering on the seaweed.

Okay, so lots has happened in this picture because I forgot to take pictures at a few stages. So I added more layers and color to the coral and seaweed. Then realized the octopus was missing two arms, gave them some suction cups and highlighted them. I made her cry and added bangs. The octopus has eyes now but still no where near done.

Lots more texture and depth to the sea ground but I still have to do that other coral spongy thingy and the sea horse along with some more layering and glazing.
To be continued...
again my apologies for crappy pictures but the finished piece will be good.

Try it and see what you learn...

Found this meme on MineofThine's blog

Instructions:
1. Delve into your blog archive.
2. Find your 23rd post.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.

My results:
"And last but not least I still haven't started on a damn thing I said I would in my last blog."

Just that one sentence alone sums up just how bad procrastination runs through my veins. It seems to be the theme that is the continuing thread through my entire blog existence.

Sensory Overload in a good way

These photos evoke some strong emotions for me. Its obvious from the looks of my blog that I love all things brocade and all things purple and jewel tones. I happened to be reading over on http://decor8blog.com/ a blog that showcases home designs and artist/crafters and WOW I am in love.
Nothing gets my heart racing like a beautifully decorated home that has lots of color, texture and patterns that resonate  POSHness to the fullest.
All of these photo's can be clicked on but the designer mastermind behind all this luxorius goodness is Tricia Guild of the http://www.designersguild.com/

I mean add in some light airy White Patchouli in the air and my senses will be in overload heaven.

Let's not even get started to the rooms architectural detail...the windows alone "TO DIE FOR!"
Not only does Tricia create beautifully upholstered furnishings but she has wallpaper and a host of other things like bedding, bath stuff, home accessories etc etc.

This picture right here just makes me all warm and velvety on the inside...
Why are all the cool places like this always in the UK???

Red Seah

Okay Ladies and Gents I finally got her all completed. I went ahead and went with the bubbles the same color as her background only because that was the original idea.
click on image for more info...

However since it is a series I am looking forward to the next one which will have black bubbles and lots of other exciting under water sea wonders. I've decided to work on my next two "Fluid" pieces simultaneously one will be a female w/ the black bubbles and the other will be another abstract piece. I am so excited I don't know how artist who have gallery showings contain themselves and not post pics. lol All of these will most likely end up in my January show!

Okay I'm coming back from the uninspired dead....

Alrighty on Saturday I was suppose to have two vending events well its turns out I only had one and that the other was a big miscommunication error #FAIL! Anyway the one that I did actually have was hmmm shall I say not exactly what I expected but darn near close. I did sell not one thing. Not even a print or a note card. I had things ranging from $350-$1.00 and still no one bought. I can't say that I've ever had that happen before but hey what can you do??? Nothing except keep it moving right. One thing though...I did paint live to keep myself occupied while I sat at my table. And what I have so far I am totally in love with! She is so pretty! but I am however stuck on one detail.

It's obvious she is under water and she is one of the the "Fluid" pieces I am currently working on. Kacey's Blu's was the third instillation and Rhythm Nation was the second. The first is the piece that I actually named "Fluid". I did do a little twist and change up her background color but my dilemma is to pay homage to the ones who lost their lives in the oil rig explosion and keep the bubbles black or do I continue on with my regular bubbles as usual????

Please comment below I love feedback. If you subscribe through a feed just click on the blog title to get to original page.

Where is my mojo???

I think I've lost it again I had two events this Saturday and then the regular Sunday at Liv with BlackAlleyband but I have no juice in me. I'm stressed because monthly expenses are piling up and I have no idea of what to create nor do I have the energy. Nor the desire to go down to my space to try to muster up the inspiration. I think the space itself is taking a toll on  me. I create all these awesome paintings when I paint live but why can't I reproduce that here at home as of late. Not to mention I haven't done youtube in ages. I spend a lot of time surfing the internet. I remember a time in my life when I didn't turn my computer on for days maybe even weeks. And it wasn't because it didn't work either.

Now I'm a social media whore.
Virtually fulfilling my voyeuristic tendencies. Watching others live out their dreams or not.
I mean don't get me wrong I have been busy this summer but I know what it really takes to make this dream of mine happen and I really need to step my game up major big time. I need to just unplug and refresh and then just create. If lack of money weren't an issue for me right now...I'd take a break from live painting and hair jump in the car with my art supplies and a few comfy but cute paint clothes and find somewhere to woosah.

It would be cool if there was a Mr.Miyagi of the art world who could take me in as his little grasshopper lol.

I have the hardest time staying focused. I'm pretty positive everything will work out fine this weekend but I am a bit anxious.

Another successful night with BlackAlley

As usual I painted live with the ever so lovely BlackAlleyBand and as always they rocked the house. Not to mention I sold not one but three paintings tonight!!! Owww! Yeah Baby! Okay so inspired by a vision that came to me in a dream and a combination of the piece I did the other night at the sports lounge. I came up with the girl under the sea and I was going to paint her face very dark almost black. Then while I was painting Kacey's (lead vocals) voice was sounding smooth like velvet so I thought let me do her light skinned and call it...
