Some People

Last week in the midst of the traumatic event that took place in Haiti, I was experiencing my own tragedy as well. As bad as I wanted to focus my thoughts and prayers completely towards the victims of this huge loss I was grieving for my own loss.
My Uncle Darel past away last week. This came as a shock to my family. You see Darel was my uncle but because we were only two years apart he was more like my brother. As small children we lived in the same apartment building so we were always spending time together up until we moved. So I would come and spend my spring breaks with him and my step-granddad all the way up into our teenage years. We had some great times together. LOL as I think about them.
Sadly as a young adult my uncle made some wrong choices which in turn cost him 21 years of his life. Yet after paying his debt he came home a free man who looked forward too so many things. Things we often take for granted he appreciated. For the next 6 months my Uncle wasted no time enjoying life, love, family, friends, work, fun and freedom. Some folks may say it was too much too fast. But on January 10, 2010 my uncle Darel's life was stolen from us.
Darel was more than just another statistic. He was a loving loyal son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, boyfriend, and friend. He loved his family and would do anything for us. Especially his Father who did do anything for his only son. Although his reunion with us was brief I am forever grateful for those precious 6 months we had with him.
Today and forever I celebrate his life and will miss him. Rest In Peace my unclebro Darel M. Alston.

SOME PEOPLE
Some people come into our lives
and leave footprints on our hearts
and we are never ever the same.

Some people come into our lives
and quickly go... Some stay for awhile
and embrace our silent dreams.

They help us become aware
of the delicate winds of hope...
and we discover within every human spirit
there are wings yearning to fly.

They help our hearts to see that
the only stairway to the stars
is woven with dreams...
and we find ourselves
unafraid to reach high.

They celebrate the true essence
of who we are...
and have faith in all
that we may become.

Some people awaken us
to new and deeper realizations...
for we gain insight
from the passing whisper of their wisdom

Throughout our lives we are sent
precious souls...
meant to share our journey
however brief or lasting their stay
they remind us why we are here.

To learn... to teach... to nurture... to love

Some people come into our lives
to cast a steady light
upon our path and guide our every step
their shining belief in us
helps us to believe in ourselves.

Some people come into our
lives to teach us about love...
The love that rests within ourselves.

Let us reach out to others
and feel the bliss of giving
for love is far richer in action
that it ever is in words.

Some people come into our lives
and they move our souls to sing
and make our spirits dance.

They help us to see that everything on earth
is part of the incredibility of life...
and that it is always there
for us to take of its joy.

Some people come into our lives
and leave footprints on our hearts
and we are never ever the same.

That was wonderfully written and it most certainly saddened my heart. I couldnt find his obituary anywhere I heard alot about you and your words were as beautiful as the memories that he shared of his life. Milihka Alston
